Being a Witness

What is a witness?

A witness is someone who goes to court to speak about something they know.

Telling the court what you know is called 'giving your evidence'.

You can be a witness when:

  • You have been a victim of crime
  • You have seen or heard something about a crime
  • Someone has said you have carried out a crime

You can also be a witness in a children's hearing court case.

Being a witness is very important. Being a witness means telling the truth about what you know.
