People with Learning People with Learning Disabilities - Information for Carers

Welcome to the Witnesses in Scotland website for Carers of People with Learning Disabilities.

If you care for someone with a learning disability who has been asked to be a witness and needs to go to court, you may be unsure about what you can do to help them.

This section of the website covers how to help adult witnesses (someone 16 or over) with learning disabilities who have been asked to be a witness in a criminal court case or at a children's hearing court case.

This section is not for supporters (one of the special measures for particularly vulnerable witnesses) though it offers some information about whether and when it might be appropriate for carers to act as supporters in court.

If you are a parent or carer looking for information for a child or young person acting as a witness, please see the sections for Children and Young People.
